Privacy policy.

This Privacy Policy explains how Praecip collects, uses and protects information when you use our website and services to discover, compare and contact schools in Uganda. It covers families browsing the platform, and schools that manage a listing with us.

We aim to collect only what we need, to be clear about why, and to keep it safe.

Information you give us

• details you submit through forms, for example a contact message, a newsletter sign-up, a correction to a listing, or a review;
• account and profile details if you register, including a school’s information when it claims or manages a listing;
• any correspondence you send us.

Information collected automatically

• basic technical data such as your device type, browser, approximate location and pages viewed, used to keep the platform working and to understand what is useful;
• data stored locally in your browser to power features, for example your saved shortlist and favourites (see Cookies and local storage below).

We do not knowingly collect more sensitive categories of data, and ask that you do not send them to us through the platform.

We use information to:

• operate the platform and show you relevant schools, listings and comparisons;
• respond to your messages, corrections and requests;
• send updates you have asked for, such as a newsletter, which you can stop at any time;
• maintain security, prevent abuse, and understand and improve how the platform is used;
• meet our legal and regulatory obligations.

We use cookies and similar browser storage to make the platform work and to measure how it is used. Some storage is essential; some helps us improve the experience.

A practical example: your shortlist and favourites are saved directly in your own browser under the keys praecip:shortlist and praecip:favorites, so the schools you save stay with you between visits. This data lives on your device, not on a central profile, and you can clear it at any time through your browser settings.

You can control or delete cookies and local storage through your browser. Blocking some of it may affect how parts of the platform work.

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as needed:

• With schools you choose to contact, if you send an enquiry to a school through the platform, your message and contact details go to that school so it can reply.
• With service providers who help us run the platform (such as hosting and analytics), under terms that require them to protect your data.
• When required by law, or to protect the rights, safety and security of Praecip, our users or the public.
• In a business transfer, such as a merger or acquisition, in which case we will tell you what it means for your information.

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes described here , to provide the service, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes and enforce our agreements, and then delete or anonymise it. Data stored in your browser, such as your shortlist, remains until you clear it.

Subject to applicable law, you can ask to access, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, object to certain uses, or withdraw consent you have given. You can also unsubscribe from our emails using the link in any message.

To make a request, contact us using the details below. We may need to verify your identity before we act, and we will respond within a reasonable time.

The platform is intended for parents, guardians and other adults making schooling decisions. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, please use a strong, unique password for any account and let us know promptly if you suspect a problem.

Praecip serves Uganda, but the providers that host and support our platform may process data in other countries. Where information is transferred across borders, we take steps to ensure it remains protected in line with this policy and applicable law.

We may update this policy as the platform evolves or the law changes. When we make a material change we will revise the date at the top of this page, and significant changes may be highlighted on the platform. Please check back from time to time.
