Frequently asked questions

Adult & continuing education, answered.

What is adult & continuing education (ACE)?

ACE is the route to UCE or UACE certification for learners who didn't complete those exams during the standard school years, typically adults aged 18+, working professionals, or out-of-school youth returning to study. ACE programmes condense the secondary curriculum into evening, weekend or accelerated tracks.

Will I sit the same UCE / UACE exams?

Yes, ACE candidates sit standard UNEB exams alongside school candidates. UNEB also offers AME (Adult Mature-age Examinations) for selected subjects. Either certification carries the same weight for university admission, professional qualification or government job applications.

How long does ACE take?

A condensed UCE programme typically runs 18 months to 2 years; UACE about 1 year. Schedules vary by institution, evening classes (Mon–Fri after work), weekend classes (Saturday all-day) and fully day tracks are all common. Some schools also offer distance/correspondence learning supported by occasional in-person sessions.

What does ACE cost?

ACE is almost always fee-paying and almost always private. Expect roughly UGX 400K–1.5M per term depending on the institution and the number of subjects taken. Many providers offer subject-by-subject pricing so you can pay only for what you actually need to retake or upgrade.
