Uganda's national-curriculum secondary schools, the O-Level (S1–S4 → UCE) and A-Level (S5–S6 → UACE) institutions that have shaped the country's professional class for over a century.
Overview
A UNEB secondary school is any institution in Uganda that prepares students for the national examinations administered by the Uganda National Examinations Board, specifically the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) at the end of Senior 4 and the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) at the end of Senior 6. UNEB schools follow the Ministry of Education and Sports' national syllabus, and their performance in these two examinations is the most-watched signal of school quality in the country.
UNEB schools span the full institutional spectrum, from government-aided schools with century-old traditions like King's College Budo and Gayaza High School, to modern private schools built in the post-2000 educational expansion. They include single-sex and co-educational institutions; full-time boarding schools, day schools, and hybrid day-and-boarding offerings; rural, peri-urban and urban campuses across every region of Uganda.
Praecip indexes the country's leading UNEB secondary schools and presents each with a structured profile: detailed fees broken down by class and residency, performance in recent UCE and UACE sittings, focus areas, facilities, application requirements and cut-off points, and an in-house Praecip editorial verdict scored across twelve quality axes.
