About

This is who we are

Founded in 1902 by the Mill Hill Missionaries and now run by the Brothers of Christian Instruction, Namilyango is Uganda's oldest secondary school, a powerhouse of academics, sport and Catholic-formation tradition.

When Namilyango opened its doors in 1902, it became the first secondary school in Uganda, and it has set the pace for the rest ever since.

Today it serves 1,300 students alongside 110 teaching staff.

The Praecip verdict

Tradition, sport, and a Catholic-formation backbone

What stands out

Namilyango pairs steady academic results with arguably the strongest schoolboy sports culture in Uganda, football, rugby, athletics, and a Catholic chaplaincy that genuinely shapes character.

Where it falters

Catch is the same as Budo's: some buildings need refurbishment and STEM/tech programmes lag the newer private schools. The school leans heavily on tradition; families wanting cutting-edge digital pedagogy will find it more selectively here.
