Strength in the sciences is built over years: stable physics and chemistry teachers, working labs, and a culture that does not quietly steer pupils away from the hard subjects. A note on method. This is not a league table, and the order means nothing. What these schools share is harder to rank than a results column: a habit of keeping pupils, and especially girls, in physics and mathematics through to A-level; laboratories that are timetabled rather than locked; and a science staff room stable enough to compound its expertise over a decade. Where a school's results are in question, the published figures sit with the Uganda National Examinations Board.

Ntare's pull extends well beyond Mbarara. Families across the south-west send their strongest science candidates here on reputation alone, and the school's challenge now is less about results than about keeping pace with demand without diluting what made it.
