It is taken as given that the best schools cluster around the capital. The 2025 data complicates that. A handful of rural schools, several of them far from any tarmac road, posted results that would place them comfortably in the Kampala upper tier, on a fraction of the fees.
The outliers tend to share a boarding model that keeps pupils on a stable routine, a long-tenured head who has made the school a destination rather than a fallback, and deep roots in a community that supplies both pupils and accountability. Their lesson is not that location does not matter, but that leadership and consistency can outrun it.
