Praecip

Methodology

How a school is judged.

A mark of quality is only worth carrying if the method behind it is open to scrutiny. Here is exactly how schools are scored, who decides, and the rules that keep the award honest.

The impartiality wall

Praecip earns revenue from some of the schools it judges. That is precisely why these four rules exist, and why they are absolute. They are the line between an award worth winning and a logo for sale.

Free to enter, always

There is no fee to nominate, enter or be considered, and there never will be. Praecip does not sell places on a shortlist, and no school can pay to be assessed more favourably.

Blind to commerce

Judges score entrants without sight of their Praecip subscription, advertising or any commercial relationship. A paying school and a non-paying school are weighed on identical evidence.

Decided by an independent panel

Praecip assembles the evidence and runs the objective scoring; an independent panel of educators reviews, challenges and confirms. We do not crown winners on our own.

Transparent and challengeable

Every weight and data source is published on this page. A school can see precisely why it placed, and contest the record if it believes the data is wrong.

How sponsorship stays clear of judging

The scoring rubric

Results lead, but they do not rule. The weighting below applies to the composite categories; specialist and people categories lean on the most relevant signals and the panel’s judgement. The column sums to 100.

From nomination to seal

  1. 1

    Nominate

Anyone may put a school forward, heads, parents, alumni or our own editors. Entry is free and a school need not nominate itself.

  2. 2

    Assemble the evidence

For each entrant, Praecip compiles examination results, verification status and profile data into a single, comparable record.

  3. 3

    First-round scoring

Entrants are scored against the published rubric on objective data, blind to any commercial relationship.

  4. 4

    Panel deliberation

The independent panel reviews top-scoring entrants and judges the qualitative categories on documented evidence and nominations.

  5. 5

    Shortlist & finalists

Finalists are published across every category, and shortlisted seals are issued. Schools may ask to be omitted before publication.

  6. 6

    Winners announced

Winners and Highly Commended schools are revealed at the ceremony and receive the seal, certificate and verification page.

What the score is built from

We score on evidence we can verify, not claims a school makes about itself. Where a school’s data is still thin, the results-led categories may not apply, but the categories that do not depend on examination data still do.

  • UNEB results, PLE, UCE and UACE, held in Praecip’s database.
  • International board outcomes, Cambridge, IB and the French Baccalauréat.
  • Verified school profiles, curriculum, facilities and co-curricular record.
  • Published fee schedules, bursaries and intake.
  • Verified parent and community reviews on Praecip.

What recognition looks like

Recognition runs deeper than a single winner per category. Four tiers mean strong schools carry a mark of distinction even when they do not take the top prize.

Questions, answered

How much does it cost to enter?
Nothing. Entry and consideration are free, and always will be. Praecip does not accept payment for a place on any shortlist.
Does a Praecip subscription help my school win?
No. Judges score entrants blind to commercial status. A subscribing school and a non-subscribing school are assessed on identical evidence.
Who can nominate a school?
Anyone, heads, teachers, parents, alumni or Praecip’s own editors. A school does not have to nominate itself to be considered.
What is a school actually judged on?
A published rubric led by examination results, then improvement, access, breadth and verified parent signal. The full weighting is on the methodology page.
What if my school has little data on Praecip yet?
Confirm and complete your profile during the entry window. Verified results strengthen an entry; thin data does not disqualify you from the non-results categories.
What does winning come with?
The Praecip Seal of Excellence for the cycle, a digital badge, a public verification page, a certificate, and a laurel on your Praecip profile.
Can a school decline recognition?
Yes. Recognition is positive-only, and any school may ask to be omitted from a shortlist before it is published.

Confident in the method? Put your school forward.

Now that you know exactly how it works, there is nothing to lose, entry is free, and the recognition is real.
