Frequently asked questions

Distance & online learning, answered.

What is distance learning in the Ugandan context?

Education delivered mainly off-campus, through online classes, recorded lessons, printed study packs or radio, so a learner can study without attending school in person every day. It overlaps with adult and continuing education, and is used by working learners, learners abroad, and those repeating or catching up on exams.

Can distance learners still sit UNEB exams?

Yes. Distance and private candidates register and sit PLE, UCE and UACE through an approved examination centre. Many distance programmes are built specifically around getting private candidates through these exams.

Is distance learning the same as home-schooling?

They overlap but differ. Home-schooling is parent-led at home; distance learning is run by a school or programme that provides the curriculum, teaching and assessment remotely. Some families combine the two.
