About

This is who we are

Established in 1956 to form young men discerning a vocation to ordained Anglican ministry, Bukalasa pairs the Ugandan national curriculum with a daily liturgical, theological and pastoral formation programme. Open to baptised Anglican boys recommended by their parish.

Today it serves 280 students alongside 32 teaching staff.

A message

From the rector

The Rector

Bukalasa is not for every boy, it is for boys who feel a deep, unforced pull toward serving the Church. We accompany them through years of academic rigour and prayerful formation, and we send them on freely whether to seminary, university or another life.

The Praecip verdict

Profound character formation; a narrow but unmatched path for vocational candidates

What stands out

Bukalasa is the most coherent character-formation environment for boys in Uganda, daily liturgy, small classes, deep mentoring, and a quietly serious peer culture. Academic results are strong without being the primary goal.

Where it falters

It is, by design, not for everyone. Boys without a confirmed pull toward Anglican ministry will find the formation programme heavy. For those with that pull, there is no substitute in the country.

What families are saying

  1. A transformative formation

Our son entered uncertain and left transformed. Even though he chose university over seminary, the formation was the gift of his life.
