Job Overview

  • AsOne High School is looking for a History/CRE Teacher to join its team serving the Luuka and Serere community. The role combines classroom teaching with the moral and character formation the school is built around.
  • You will deliver curriculum-aligned lessons that build historical understanding, moral grounding and critical thinking. Reporting to the Director of Studies, you will contribute to academic results while supporting students' faith and character development. The position begins in January 2027 and asks for real commitment to holistic education.
  • AsOne High School provides secondary education grounded in Christian values. The History/CRE Teacher prepares students for national examinations while instilling the values of responsible citizenship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare schemes of work and lesson plans for History and CRE following UNEB syllabus guidelines for O-Level and A-Level.
  • Teach learner-centred lessons that use interactive methods to keep students participating.
  • Set and mark regular tests, quizzes and examinations, and give students constructive feedback.
  • Keep accurate records of attendance, performance and progress, and report to parents and school administration.
  • Take part in subject department meetings, contribute to curriculum development and work with colleagues on interdisciplinary projects.
  • Run extracurricular activities tied to History and CRE, such as debate clubs, history tours and religious fellowship groups.
  • Uphold the school's Christian ethos in lessons while respecting the range of student backgrounds.
  • Keep developing professionally through workshops, training and self-study.

Essential

  • Bachelor's degree in Education specialising in History, Christian Religious Education or a closely related field.
  • Two or more years teaching History and/or CRE at secondary level in Uganda or an equivalent system.
  • Valid teaching certificate or licence issued by the Ugandan Ministry of Education and Sports.
  • Strong written and spoken English, the medium of instruction across the school.
  • Familiarity with the UNEB curriculum structure and assessment criteria for History and CRE.
  • Able to build an inclusive classroom that works for different learning styles and abilities.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification in Education, History, Theology or Religious Studies.
  • Experience teaching both O-Level and A-Level classes.
  • Comfortable integrating digital resources, educational software and online learning tools.
  • Previous school leadership experience as a class teacher, house master or mistress, or subject coordinator.
  • Active participation in church or community service.
  • Training in special needs education or student counselling.
