The Opportunity

  • The Aga Khan University (AKU) is a private, autonomous and self-governing international university, with 13 teaching sites in 6 countries across three continents.   • Excellent opportunities exist for suitably qualified candidates to join The Aga Khan University-Uganda, School of Nursing and Midwifery, in the position of Instructor / Assistant Lecturer (3 positions). These are full-time faculty positions based in Kampala, Uganda, covering Nursing & Midwifery, Anatomy, and Biochemistry / Microbiology.
  • The incumbents will report to the Vice Dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery (SONAM) and will contribute directly to the University's teaching, research and community engagement mandate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses within the assigned discipline to a consistently high academic standard.
  • Actively contribute to the body of nursing knowledge through research and publication.
  • Provide student mentorship, counselling and academic support throughout the programme.
  • Contribute to academic administration and programme development offered by SONAM.
  • Maintain active clinical practice and ongoing professional development appropriate to the discipline.

Essential

  • For the Nursing & Midwifery position: Bachelor of Nursing Science with a Master of Science in Nursing or Midwifery from a recognised university.
  • For the Anatomy position: Master of Science in Human Anatomy, with an undergraduate degree in Bachelor of Nursing Science, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, or Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences from a recognised university.
  • For the Biochemistry / Microbiology position: Master of Science in Biochemistry or Microbiology, and a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences or Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences from a recognised university.
  • Registration with the relevant professional regulatory body, where applicable, and a current practicing licence.
  • At least two years' clinical or teaching experience in a hospital or academic institution.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Education.
  • PhD qualification in a relevant discipline.
