Job Overview

  • Job Title: Instructor, Motor Vehicle Mechanics (1)
  • Duty Station: Masulita, Wakiso District
  • The Motor Vehicle Mechanics Instructor, based at Masulita Vocational School, will be responsible for delivering high-quality theoretical and practical training in automotive mechanics. The role focuses on equipping students with hands-on skills in vehicle servicing, diagnostics and repair, while promoting safety and industry-relevant practice.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver both theoretical and practical training in motor vehicle mechanics to students.
  • Prepare lesson plans, training materials and practical demonstrations aligned with the curriculum.
  • Guide students in hands-on mechanical work, including vehicle servicing, diagnostics and repairs.
  • Train students in the proper use of workshop tools, equipment and machinery.
  • Assess and evaluate student performance through tests, assignments and practical assessments.
  • Ensure strict adherence to health and safety standards within the workshop.
  • Mentor and support students in developing technical and employability skills.
  • Maintain and manage workshop tools, equipment and training resources.
  • Keep accurate records of student attendance, progress and performance.
  • Stay updated with current automotive technologies and industry practices.
  • Work closely with school management to ensure quality training and positive learning outcomes.
  • Lead the process of learner assessment and certification in accordance with TVET requirements.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • National Certificate or advanced craft certificate in Motor Vehicle Mechanics.
  • National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Officially registered as a TVET trainer.
  • More than two years' experience in training and assessment using a UBTEB-recognised module.

Technical Skills Required

  • Proven hands-on experience in vehicle repair, servicing and diagnostics.
  • Previous teaching or training experience in a vocational setting is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive systems and workshop practice.

Behavioural Skills

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational and record-keeping abilities.
  • Ability to mentor and support students with diverse learning needs.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism and commitment to student development.
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety practices in electrical work.
