The Opportunity

  • Green Vocational College in Mbizzinya-Buwama is looking for a Principal to lead the institution and its academic programmes. You report to the Educational Development Initiative board and are accountable for the college's direction, standards and growth.
  • The Principal shapes the college's vision, runs its academic programmes and keeps it compliant with national TVET standards. We are looking for proven leadership in technical and vocational education, and a real commitment to skills development and youth employment in Uganda.
  • The college serves students from surrounding districts who are after practical skills for work or for starting a business. The role is a chance to leave a lasting mark on vocational training in the Buwama region, working with a committed team of educators and support staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set the direction for Green Vocational College in line with national TVET policy and EDI objectives.
  • Oversee all academic programmes, keeping curriculum relevant, instruction strong and assessment methods sound.
  • Manage college resources, including budget allocation, staff recruitment and development, and upkeep of training facilities and equipment.
  • Build partnerships with local industry, employers and community organisations so graduates leave employable.
  • Maintain compliance with Uganda National Bureau of Standards and Directorate of Industrial Training regulations and accreditation requirements.
  • Promote student welfare, discipline and extracurricular activity within a safe learning environment.
  • Report to the EDI board on academic progress, financial position and institutional development.
  • Lead improvement in teaching methods, technology use and instructor professional development.

Essential

  • Bachelor's degree in technical or vocational education, engineering, or a related education field from a recognised university.
  • Minimum five years' progressive experience in TVET institutions, with at least two in senior management or supervision.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Uganda's TVET policy framework, curriculum development and assessment systems.
  • Proven ability to manage institutional budgets, human resources and physical assets in an education setting.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the range to work with students, staff and community leaders alike.

Desirable

  • Master's degree in educational management, technical education or a related field.
  • Experience implementing competency-based training and national vocational qualification systems.
  • Background in agricultural technology, business studies or ICT training relevant to the local economy.
  • Experience in grant writing, project management or donor-funded education initiatives.
  • Familiarity with gender-responsive pedagogy and inclusive practice for diverse learners.
