Senior Lecturer – Overall Purpose

  • Teach, mentor and evaluate graduate and post-graduate students, conduct research, deliver effective teaching and learning technologies and outcomes, and support the department's mission of research and knowledge dissemination.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare, teach, mentor and evaluate graduate and post-graduate students using current teaching and learning technologies.
  • Lead with the HOD to ensure the graduate and post-graduate students achieve all learning outcomes throughout the beginning to end of the semester.
  • Evaluate student progress and academic performance and record grades in a timely and orderly fashion according to the timelines set through the beginning to end of the semester.
  • Complete supplementary paperwork and assignments as needed and required by the Head of Department.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development activities.
  • Attend student advising hours.
  • Serve on academic and departmental committees, and undertake other duties as assigned.

Research, Publications, Consultancies and Grants

  • Conduct/participate, supervise/lead research and disseminate all research work undertaken.
  • Publish research work in appropriate and relevant scholarly journals and workshops.
  • Participate in writing proposals for grant projects in the area of specialisation.
  • Review requirements and directives within their area of specialisation and consult with the department in matters pertaining to grants and consultancies.
  • Effective supervision and mentorship of research work aligned to reputable standards in their area of specialisation.

Community Engagement

  • Participate in community engagement activities to identify areas of practical relevance where academic work of expertise and skills demands can be attended to.
  • Act as a resource person in the specific field of expertise to complement the community.
  • Attend relevant conferences/workshops to disseminate research findings.
  • Assist the Dean/Head of Department in liaising with community organisations and other stakeholders.

Financial

  • Generate revenue through gross enrolments in the department, and deliver income and academic value in line with University strategy.

Essential

  • For Senior Lecturer: a relevant PhD in the field of expertise, from a recognised University. Three (3) years of university teaching experience at Senior Lecturer level, with at least 30 recognised publications in a reputable Journal, one of which is a First/Corresponding/Senior Author.
  • For Lecturer: a PhD is a preferred requirement, and eligibility for university teaching experience is welcome. Twenty (20) years of academic publications and research work, and demonstrable good record and participation in the field of specialisation as well as good involvement with the University's academic and administrative work.
  • For Assistant Lecturer: a Master's degree in the area of specialisation, with at least 25% of PhD coursework completed and one publication as evidence of the field of specialisation.
