Job Overview

  • AS ONE MINISTRIES UGANDA COMPANY LIMITED is hiring a Swahili Teacher for AsOne High School in the Luuka and Serere community. The role delivers Kiswahili instruction aligned to Uganda's national curriculum and UNEB standards.
  • You will teach O-Level and A-Level students, building listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in Kiswahili. Working with the Director of Studies and fellow educators, you will contribute to curriculum planning and student assessment. The position begins in January 2027.
  • AsOne High School serves the Serere community with education grounded in Christian values. The Swahili Teacher helps preserve East African language and culture while preparing students for regional communication and future careers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver Kiswahili lessons following the national secondary curriculum and UNEB syllabus requirements.
  • Write schemes of work, lesson plans and assessment schedules tailored to O-Level and A-Level needs.
  • Build classroom activities that develop grammar, vocabulary, comprehension and spoken communication in Kiswahili.
  • Run regular assessments including tests, quizzes and oral examinations, and give constructive feedback.
  • Keep accurate records of attendance, performance and achievement under school and ministry guidelines.
  • Take part in subject department meetings and share teaching practice with colleagues.
  • Support extracurricular activities that promote Kiswahili and East African culture, such as language clubs and cultural events.
  • Uphold the school's Christ-centred values in classroom management and student interactions.

Essential

  • Diploma in Education specialising in Kiswahili Language or Literature from a recognised Ugandan institution.
  • Two or more years teaching Kiswahili at secondary level, preferably O-Level or A-Level.
  • Proficiency in both English and Kiswahili for instruction and staff communication.
  • Familiarity with the UNEB Kiswahili syllabus and assessment standards for secondary education.
  • Able to plan learner-centred lessons that work for different abilities in the same class.
  • Commitment to professional ethics consistent with the Christian mission of AS ONE MINISTRIES.

Desirable

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or Kiswahili Studies.
  • Experience teaching in rural or community-based schools similar to the Luuka and Serere context.
  • Comfortable using educational software and multimedia resources in language teaching.
  • Previous involvement in curriculum development or textbook review panels for Kiswahili.
  • Training in special needs education or differentiated instruction.
  • Active participation in professional associations for language educators in Uganda or East Africa.
