About
Founded in 1906 atop Buddo Hill, King's College Budo is one of Uganda's oldest and most prestigious secondary schools. Long associated with the Buganda monarchy, Budo has shaped generations of national leaders, scholars and public intellectuals.
Set on the historic Buddo Hill in Wakiso, the College is a fully residential, single-sex school for boys from Senior One through Senior Six. Its houses, prefectoral system and chapel traditions are the scaffolding of daily life, and many who teach here are themselves Old Budonians who returned to the hill they once called home.
Academic rigour sits at the centre of a Budo education, but it has never stood alone. The timetable makes room for debate and drama, for music and the sciences, and for sport on a cricket oval that has produced national players. Boys are encouraged to take up every opportunity the College offers, in the classroom, on the field, on the stage and in service to those around them.
Raised on Buddo Hill in 1906 to educate the sons of a kingdom, Budo has spent over a century turning boys into the leaders of a nation.
More than a century on, Budo's reach is measured less in league tables than in the lives of its alumni, who carry the school's motto, Gakyali Mabaga, the feast is just beginning, into public service, scholarship, the church and enterprise across Uganda and beyond. Families who choose Budo are choosing a community that thinks in generations rather than in terms.
Today it serves 1,100 students alongside 110 teaching staff.
A message

Since 1906, King's College Budo has stood on its hill as one of Uganda's oldest and most consequential secondary schools. Founded by the Church Missionary Society and long entwined with the Buganda monarchy, our College has the rare privilege of having shaped generations of national leaders, scholars, scientists, clergymen and public intellectuals.
There is much to discover about Budo. We are a residential, single-sex school for boys in S1 through S6, with a community that prizes academic rigour, character formation and lifelong brotherhood in equal measure. It is not only our setting on Buddo Hill that sets us apart, but also our deep sense of place, a place where Old Boys return forty years on and still know every corridor by name. Our motto, Gakyali Mabaga ("The feast is just beginning"), is a quiet reminder that excellence is never finished work.
I invite you to explore our laboratories and library, our chapel and dining hall, our music block and our cricket oval. At Budo, boys are encouraged to take up every opportunity, in the classroom, on the field, on the stage and in service to the community. Our House system, our prefectoral tradition and our debating culture continue to do quietly important work in shaping men who can think, speak and lead.
We are proud of our staff, many of whom are themselves Old Budonians, and of the wider community of parents, alumni and friends who steward this school across generations. If you are considering Budo for your son, do come and see the College in person. Visit on a Speech Day, walk the hill, sit in on a chapel service. You will quickly see what the words on this page cannot fully convey.
We look forward to meeting you, and to welcoming the next generation of Budonians.

The Praecip verdict
Editor's view
Budo remains the gold standard for Uganda's male academic elite. The teaching cadre is deep, the alumni network unmatched in influence, and the boys-only boarding culture an effective accelerator for self-discipline and leadership. Where Budo lags slightly is in newer learning infrastructure, STEM labs, technology-driven instruction, and modernised dormitories. Parents prioritising contemporary digital pedagogy may find more polish at younger private schools, but few can rival Budo's gravity in shaping public-life careers.

Three of our sons came through Budo. The discipline, friendships and academic rigour are without rival in Uganda.
